Philosophy and Rates
After spending ten years working for large law firms, I noticed that employers tended not to call attorneys for what I call “preventive medicine.” Our phones only rang when an employer found itself in the middle of a crisis. I concluded that companies didn’t call us sooner because talking to an attorney is so expensive. One of the goals in founding this law firm is to offer employers legal services at hourly rates that encourage employers to call an attorney before a situation turns into a crisis. Identifying and fixing areas of vulnerability before a lawsuit is threatened or filed can save a company hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal expenses annually. I also provide training for employees and human resources professionals on a variety of topics including sexual harassment and litigation avoidance.
In addition to encouraging employers to invest in prevention, I also encourage employers to consider using an attorney for particularly dicey workplace investigations. Large firms are typically not interested in providing this service to their clients because an attorney who conducts an investigation becomes a witness, and the firm that conducted the investigation may not be able to represent the client in any subsequent litigation related to the subject matter of the investigation. However, there can be many benefits to having an experienced attorney perform a workplace investigation, and I offer that service at rates that are a fraction of what my former firm charges.
Lastly, if a workplace dispute does result in litigation, an employer needs effective representation from a firm that understands both the legal and practical significance of defending a lawsuit. My goal is to resolve disputes as quickly, efficiently, and cost effectively as possible, while vigorously representing my clients’ interests.
